When it comes to removing makeup, I’m all business. Oil cleanser will always be my most trusted method of makeup removal, followed by a nice gentle foaming cleanser. Since university, I’ve always stuck by Shu Uemura, and while I’ve dabbled here and there with other products, I’ve always come back sheepishly to my trusty bottle of Shu.
Lately, I’ve been looking for ways to trim back my ever-expanding beauty budget without forgoing quality or cutting out any of my ten steps. Since cleansers spend the least amount of time on one’s face, I decided it was the most logical place to explore cheaper options.
My foaming cleanser (SU:M Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick) is already incredible value for money with one stick lasting ten months and costing only $26. The Shu, on the other hand, is $58 a bottle and I buy a new one approximately every 6-8 weeks.
Having heard great things about the UK brand Simple, I decided to give their Hydrating Cleansing Oil a go. Made with 100% grape-seed oil, the product is as simple as the brand’s name.
So far, I can attest to its efficacy in removing makeup, although the smell isn’t quite as luxurious as my beloved Shu. However, at $11 a bottle, I can’t really complain. While I’m not sure if it has been immensely hydrating, it certainly hasn’t been drying.
Overall, I would recommend the Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil to anyone looking for a basic product to remove makeup. Of course, it’s important to follow with a foaming cleanser to remove any cleansing oil residue and get your face extra squeaky clean.
