Ladies, what’s more luxurious than coming home from a long day at work/school and washing off your makeup?
I am religious about my cleansing ritual and even on nights where I’ve come home at 3am after drinks with the girls, I always make sure to double cleanse. I even do it on long haul flights. Why bother? Well, along with moisturising, cleansing is the most important part of your skincare regime so it’s vital to do it right. Do it double.
If you don’t know what double cleansing is, let me get you up to speed. As the name suggests, double cleansing is a two step process.
Step one is taking off your makeup, usually with a cleansing oil, balm or micellar water. I use oils and balms because my skin is on the drier side and it gets torn to pieces when I use micellar.
Plus, cleansing oils allow you to give yourself a luxurious massage. K-pop superstar Suzy swears by the 4-2-4 rule where she massages the cleansing oil for 4 minutes, foam cleanses for 2 and rinses with water for 4 minutes by splashing rather than touching her face. Now that is dedication.
On to Step two. The foaming cleanser. This removes any remaining stubborn traces of makeup and cleans away dirt and impurities.
If you don’t wear makeup, the second step will suffice. But if you do, you seriously need both, otherwise you’re not getting a thorough clean and those clogged pores will eventually catch up on you.
Now for product recommendations:
The price tag is admittedly a little hefty for the quantity, but I’ve always been a Shu girl. Plus, their cute limited edition bottles always win me over. If you want a dupe, I’d recommend The Face Shop Rice Water Cleansing Oil.
Banila Co Clean it Zero
In Korea, every second bathroom has one of these in the cabinet. I actually discovered this product while visiting my cousin and, having forgotten my oil cleanser, used her balm. The next day, I headed straight to the nearest LOHB’s (amazing health and beauty store) and bought four containers of Clean it Zero.
While I’m not the biggest fan of micellar water as I find it a little irritating, Bioderma is my preferred option. It is the only micellar water I have come across that doesn’t leave me as red as a lobster. However, I know Garnier’s version also has a strong following for those who seek a more budget-friendly option.
SU:M Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick
My life changed when I discovered SU:M’s cleansing stick. It’s so compact and has a deliciously subtle smell. It leaves my skin squeaky clean, without drying it out.
